A format for semantic equivalence comparison

چکیده

This paper presents a new format for process algebras, the extended tyft/tyxt format which generalises the tyft/tyxt format of Groote and Vaandrager. The format differs from most previous formats in that the labels on transitions are treated as manysorted terms. Bisimulation is a congruence for all operators defined by extended transition system specifications in this format. When one extended transition system specification is summed with another, the resulting bisimulation can either identify more terms (an abstracting extension up to bisimulation) or fewer terms (a refining extension up to bisimulation) than the original bisimulation on the individual system. The notions of abstracting extension and refining extension are defined, and two theorems are presented giving conditions required for achieving each type of extension. These results provide a way to compare different semantic equivalences defined for different process algebras. Finally, an application of this theory to semantic equivalence comparison is given for a new result relating Castellani’s pomset equivalence and Krishnan’s multiprocessor equivalence.

Reverse Engineering of Network Software Binary Codes for Identification of Syntax and Semantics of Protocol Messages

Reverse engineering of network applications especially from the security point of view is of high importance and interest. Many network applications use proprietary protocols which specifications are not publicly available. Reverse engineering of such applications could provide us with vital information to understand their embedded unknown protocols. This could facilitate many tasks including d...

Equivalence semantics for concurrency : comparison and application

Since the development of CCS and other process algebras, many extensions to these process algebras have been proposed to model different aspects of concurrent computation. It is important both theoretically and practically to understand the relationships between these process algebras and between the semantic equivalences that are defined for them. In this thesis, I investigate the comparison o...

Comparison Based Semantic Security is Probabilistic Polynomial Time Equivalent to Indistinguishability

In this paper we try to unify the frameworks of definitions of semantic security, indistinguishability and nonmalleability by defining semantic security in comparison based framework. This facilitates the study of relations among these goals against different attack models and makes the proof of the equivalence of semantic security and indistinguishability easier and more understandable. Beside...

Discovering Semantic Equivalence of People behind Online Profiles

Users are currently required to create and separately manage duplicated personal data in heterogeneous online accounts. Our approach targets the crawling, retrieval and integration of this data, based on a comprehensive ontology framework which serves as a standard format. The motivation for this integration is to enable single point management of the user’s personal information. The main chall...
